Biomasses

Anaerobic digestion of raw vegetables and animal wastes

Biodegradable waste material (raw vegetables, animal manure and cattle slaughter) is fed into airtight digesters where specific bacteria trigger, under anaerobic conditions, a fermentation process that generates biogas. The gas, composed primarily of methane, is used to feed cogeneration systems that produce electrical and thermal energy.

ONGOING PROJECTS

  • Construction and management of 20 plants of 1.5 MWe each, for energy production through corn anaerobic digestion
  • Construction and management of 20 electrical energy production plants of at least 500 kWe each from anaerobic digestion of animal and/or vegetable biomasses
  • Construction and management of one electrical energy production plant of 1 MWe from anaerobic digestion of animal manure
  • Construction and management of 20 cogeneration plants of 1.0 MWe from agro-industrial waste
  • Feasibility study for power plants from rice husk combustion

Combustion of vegetable and waste oils in cogeneration systems

Crude oils, once refined, are used to feed a cogeneration system (engine) which produces electrical and thermal energy.

ONGOING PROJECTS

  • Construction and management of two cogeneration plants (electrical + thermal energy) of 19.0 MWe each, characterized by the use of engines directly fed with bio-fuels such as imported vegetable oils (palm, rape, sunflower, corn, jatropha, etc.)

Combustion of virgin sansa and olive trees pruning wood top

Virgin sansa is the by-product in the olive oil extraction process. Both the sansa and the wood are dried before being put in the combustion chamber of the burner which generates steam through a heat exchanger. The steam flow moves a turbine that produces electrical energy.

ONGOING PROJECTS

  • Construction and management of one cogeneration plant (electrical + thermal energy) of 10.0 MWe, characterized by the use of turbine fed by steam genereted by the combustion of olive oil production residual (virgin sansa and olive oil wood) in a burner-boiler system

Bio-diesel top

Bio-diesel is a renewable liquid fuel which can be produced by reacting the glyceride contained in algae, vegetable oils, animal fats or recycled edible fats with a short chain alcohol, such as methanol or ethanol, in a step called trans-esterification. The bio-diesel, once blended with fossil fuels, can be used in unmodified diesel engines.

ONGOING PROJECTS

  • Feasibility study for two bio-diesel production plants from Jatropha oil or industrial waste oils, in China

Photovoltaic top

A solar cell is a semiconductor device that converts sunlight directly into electrical energy. The cells are typically made using a silicon wafer and are usually connected in modules, creating an additive voltage. Modules are then interconnected to create an array with the desired voltage.

ONGOING PROJECTS

  • Construction and management of several photovoltaic systems for the production of electrical energy. Most of the photovoltaic projects are implemented in geographical areas with high annual solar irradiation, namely in the South of Italy, United Arab Emirates and North African Countries

Water Treatment top

The projects mainly deal with industrial wastewater treatment and reclamation, oil-water separation, water potabilization and with sea water desalination. The technologies used involve ultra-filtration, reverse osmosis, ionic exchange and/or steam production.

ONGOING PROJECTS

  • Design, engineering, project management, construction and maintenance of a water treatment and waste water treatment plants using ultra-filtration and/or reverse osmosis processes, in the UAE
  • Design and construction of sea water desalination plants, in the UAE
  • Design and construction  of water treatment plants for potable water through ultra-filtration, in Germany
  • Research, development, design and construction  of oil / water separation plants through dissolved air flotation/ultra-filtration and/or reverse osmosis for re-injection into the ground or for steam generation in the oil fields, in the UAE
  • Construction and maintenance of water reclamation plants in China and the UAE

Turnkey Plants

Solar thermal systems top

A solar thermal electric power plant (Concentrated Solar Power - CSP Technology) is made with parabolic reflectors (the parabolic trough) that focus the energy onto the surface of an hollow tube running along above the trough. The structure tilts during the day in order to maximize its exposition to the sun. A fluid, normally thermal oil, passes through the tube and becomes hot accumulating the thermal energy used to generate steam. The steam flow moves a turbine that produces electrical energy.

Photovoltaic systems top

A solar cell is a semiconductor device, mainly made with silicium, that transforms sunlight into electricity. The cells, grouped in modules connected by silver wires, form a photovoltaic panel which generates electrical power.

Anaerobic digestion plants top

The biomasses are input in the digesters where specific bacteria trigger a fermentation process that generates biogas. The gas is used to feed a cogeneration system (engine) that produces electrical and thermal energy.
